Seen as an example of suburban nothingness this area does benefit from decent train links and access to Crystal Palace park. With some cute cafes popping up in the area it is a cheaper alternative to more appealing nearby locations.

Penge has bad rep. It's said to be the archetypal boring commuter town. I'm not saying it's actually the most exciting place in London but it's not a bad place to buy in my opinion. It has two stations (yes, great for commuting lol) but it's also right on the edge of Crystal Palace park (and so not that far from Crystal Palace) and it has the Bridge House, which is a very decent boozer. And compared to the likes of Crystal Palace it's great value for money. Attractive Victorian houses can be bought here for a small fraction of what you'd pay in more fashionable parts of London
