A gritty zone 2 area east of Whitechapel. After heavy bombing, much of the area is now occupied by post-war council estates, however there are still conservation areas and attractive streets of Georgian town houses. The Mile End Road commercial area is somewhat lacking but Bethnal Green is just north.
