Over-hyped

Is this really the loveliest place in London? I visited the other day with great expectations based on what I'd read and was a bit disappointed. Heading out of the station I was met by a pretty standard English high street - Mcdonald's, Greggs and Barclays bank, not the wonderland that had been promised. Granted, it was a pretty dreary London day but it was all a bit of a let down for me. I think there are much nicer places in London, Hampstead for one. Am I missing something?

Erm perhaps the river, it’s park (perhaps one of the most beautiful in London), the gorgeous views from the viewpoint, it’s many bars, pubs and restaurants… did you actually leave the vicinity of the station?
